Melissa draws, paints, and her favorite medium is Mixed Media, in which she uses paint, collage and found objects to create unique artworks. Drawn to tintypes and any ephemera from the Victorian Age, Melissa combines the intrigue of these images with her own text to form small, gem-like stories in her work. Her drawings also contain Victorian wallpaper patterns and designs, but with the element of the surreal.
Melissa received her BFA from Emmanuel College in 1989 and her MFA from the Art Institute of Boston under Lesley University in 2009. She has exhibited for decades throughout New England, New York City, and most recently in Hudson, NY. She has taught art to children as young as four years old, and retirees in their eighties. Melissa works in after school art programs around Boston, has been an adjunct drawing professor at the Boston Architectural College, and teaches/has taught at Brookline Adult Education, The Eliot School in Jamaica Plain, the New Art Center in Newton, and Newton Community Education. She offers private and small group art lessons at her loft and art studio at the Waltham Mills.
